Welcome to School Counseling and Mental Health Services

The mission of School Counseling and Mental Health Services is to support and serve schools to ensure student success. This is accomplished through supporting the long-term objectives of the Envision 2030 Strategic Plan by implementing key, research-based strategies to:

  • Increase Student Achievement, Social, Emotional and Foundational Skill Development
  • Increase Family and Community Engagement
  • Increase Workforce Success
  • Become a Model Continuous Improvement Organization

School Counselors and Licensed Mental Health Professionals are members of the School-Based Mental Health Team.

Professional School Counselors

School counselors have a minimum of a master’s degree in school counseling. They have specialized knowledge of curriculum and instruction and help screen students for the basic skills needed for successful transition from Pre-K to college and career.

School counselors focus on helping students address their academic, social-emotional, and career development goals, by designing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes and enhances student success.

School counselors assist students’ social, emotional, and mental health needs (i.e. adjusting to a new school, coping with grief following a crisis, social skills, learning strategies, anxiety, graduation, and other issues that may impact them). This is achieved through classroom lessons, small groups, individual planning, and career and college development.

Licensed Mental Health Professionals

Licensed Mental Health Professionals (LMHPs) have master’s degrees in social work, mental health, or marriage and family counseling. LMHPs hold active licensure via the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling, under the Florida Department of Health. LMHPs adhere to all confidentiality guidelines as outlined by the Department of Health and Professional Code of Ethics.

In collaboration with the school-based mental health team, LMHPs, work to support students’ social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs (i.e. coping with grief following a crisis, anxiety, and other issues that may impact them). This is achieved through individual and small group counseling. When needed, referrals to outside agencies are provided.
