Welcome to Cape Elementary

A tradition of excellence since 1964!

Cape Elementary School, located in the heart of Cape Coral, was the first school built on the Cape and continues to lead in a tradition of excellence.  The school’s theme, Caring About People Everywhere, pervades all its activities.  The essence of Cape can be captured in phrases like, “small community atmosphere,” “caring people,” and “warm, friendly environment.”  All programs are aimed at educating and nurturing the whole child, while continuing to focus on high achievement and rigorous academic standards.

Our Mission:  To provide a safe and supportive learning community where every student experiences success.

PBIS 22-23

Time to celebrate! Cape Elementary has been recognized by the FLPBIS Project as a 2022-2023 PBIS Model School- SILVER Level! We’ve been recognized for our work implementing a school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. PBIS is an evidence-based three-tiered prevention framework designed to improve and integrate all data, systems, and practices impacting student outcomes. National research shows that full implementation of PBIS leads to reduced exclusionary discipline and improved student and teacher outcomes.

By establishing the PBIS framework, we are developing skills of the students and adults, making system changes to our school environment to enhance school climate, acknowledging appropriate behavior, and using data to identify needed supports for our students and teachers.

As a result of this work, we are being recognized by the FLPBIS Project for achieving Silver PBIS Model School status. This award demonstrates our commitment to positive outcomes for all students and helps us celebrate our efforts of full implementation of PBIS.

Performance Class Placement:

Cape Elementary students are grouped in classes based upon their educational performance.  This structure enables our students to learn in an educational environment with students of similar needs and learning rates.  At each grade level, we offer a continuum of classes ranging from intensive reading/language arts to enriched and gifted. In Grades 2nd to 5th we also have a co-teach model with two teachers in the classroom.  Different resources and teaching strategies are used to provide optimal teaching and learning environments at every level. Your child’s academic needs and subsequent academic performance determine classroom placement.  Teachers closely monitor student progress throughout the school year and may recommend a change in classroom placement to better meet the needs of a student.
