Mrs. Kristine (Kristi) Sund
Principal


Mrs. Kristine (Kristi) Sund is proud to serve as the Principal at Cape Elementary School. Born and raised in Fort Myers, she attended K-12 in the Lee County School System before earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
Her diverse background includes six years as an elementary teacher, three years as a curriculum specialist, and two years as a high school assistant principal. In June 2014, she found her true home at Cape Elementary. Having served as Cape's dedicated Assistant Principal for the last 12 years, she is thrilled to lead the school forward. Her goal is to foster a collaborative, nurturing community where families, staff, and students work together toward continuous improvement, ensuring every child feels valued, loves learning, and is challenged to reach their fullest potential.
Outside of school, Mrs. Sund is a busy wife and mother of two amazing sons. She loves spending her free time with family and friends, shopping, and boating.
Mrs. Jill Gurgal
Assistant Principal


Mrs. Jill Gurgal is honored to serve as the assistant principal of Cape Elementary. She was born in Larksville, PA and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a concentration in disability studies from the University of Maine, Orono while playing field hockey. She moved to Florida and began her teaching career at Skyline Elementary in 2006. Following her passion to work with students with disabilities, she earned a master’s degree in exceptional student education from FGCU in 2009. Throughout her career, she taught 5th grade, 1st through 4th grade ESE, 6-8 math and AVID, and served as a teacher on assignment and resource teacher. She earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from American College of Education in 2016. She served as assistant principal of Skyline Elementary and The Sanibel School before finding her home at Cape Elementary. She is excited to be part of such an amazing school that fosters collaboration, positive school culture, and student-centered learning.
Outside of school, she enjoys spending her time with her husband and their one-year-old son, traveling to Penn State football games, and being outside whenever possible.
